Rising Waters: The Flooding in Zambia & Its Impact

Join us as we pray for the people of Zambia as they navigate severe flooding!
In recent weeks, Zambia has faced the devastating effects of heavy rainfall, leading to widespread flooding nationwide. From the rural villages to densely-populated Lusaka, the rising waters have disrupted lives, destroyed homes, and left communities grappling with the aftermath.
Speaking frankly, the flooding in Zambia is really becoming a humanitarian crisis. Families have been displaced, crops destroyed, and infrastructure damaged. In the rural areas, the loss of agricultural land threatens food security (which is already an issue), while in urban centers, the lack of proper drainage systems heightens the risk of disease. (This is how cholera and other diseases can spread extremely quickly - like we saw in January 2024.)
The floods have been particularly severe in Lusaka. Homes in the densely-populated compounds are not meant to withstand these types of rains and extreme flooding, so they are prone to weakened structures and the risk of collapse. Please pray for the safety of these families!
Transportation is also becoming extremely difficult. Zambia is notorious for its mammoth potholes, and with the flooding, it is near impossible to know how to navigate the flooded roads. In fact, during a recent home visit for one of our students, the Nsansa Village car got stuck and even began to flood on the inside.
Please pray for someone to come alongside Nsansa Village and purchase a 4WD vehicle for the onsite staff to use for daily operations. The current car was gifted to Nsansa Village about six years ago and even without the flooding, there are ongoing repairs needed. (It is on its final days!)

All in all, we just ask for continued prayers for the people of Zambia. It was recently named the sixth poorest country in the world and conditions continue to decline. The people here need hope and we know that the only true source of hope is found through salvation in Jesus Christ. May He become everyone's cornerstone in the midst of these uncertain conditions.
Blessings, dear friends,
Laura
